Introducing a new series on Brooklyn Beat — Requiem for a Scene, where we break down some of our favorite movie scenes of all time and show what makes these scenes great. The film focuses on the lives of four people in Brooklyn as their lives are torn apart by addiction. Before moving forward, a spoiler alert is warranted as the scene discussed not only happens later in the film, but is a crucial scene in the development of one of the characters. Prior to Harry heading south, the two had a bitter argument as Marion was forced to sleep with her therapist in order to get money for a drug deal that ultimately went sour for Harry and Tyrone.
A Look Back At Darren Aronofsky's 'Requiem for a Dream'
J ennifer Connelly's tears are reputedly the finest in all cinema. They flowed at the Toronto film festival last week when she choked out an explanation for cutting short her appearance at the gala screening of her new film, Creation — a departure that caused one corporate sponsor to publicly rip up a photo of her. An hour later, when we meet, I ask why she felt the need to apologise. She's not keen to elaborate. Just as quickly, she relaxes — her eyes switching from implacability to warmth. Those green eyes have been her career's most prominent weapon, and they get a good workout in Creation, in which she plays Charles Darwin's wife.

Something about the way it's put together just disturbed me like few other films have. The sadness of Ellen Burstyn's character's life and her interactions with her son is palpable even before she starts getting high. The doomed nature of the young lovers' relationship without them even knowing it is depressing.
This upsets his mother, as she watches the TV quite frequently — game shows specifically. She starts using weight-loss amphetamines — and becoming a maniac. On the other side of the spectrum, however, Harry and Tyrone dream of being big time drug dealers to have all the money that they want.
