Story of the Art: Black Kewpie Creator, Ono Takayoshi
As you browse through the THIS IS JAPAN website, you may have noticed some cool looking black kewpie products adorned with Swarovski crystals and diamonds; all of these were designed and created by Ono Takayoshi (TONO) – the mastermind behind the B.QP (Black Kewpie) series. He started doing his craft last 2005 and has been featured in various magazines and news media.
THIS IS JAPAN has had the privilege to interview such a talented artist. Today, we are more than excited to bring you a special message from Mr. Takayoshi himself as the very first round of THIS IS JAPAN’s Japanese creator interview series.
JAPANESE CREATOR INTERVIEW #1: ONO TAKAYOSHI
Q: How did you come up with Black Kewpie series? How did you feel while creating it?
I wanted to improve the dolls and make it more “Kawaii-looking” so I thought of adding different stuff to them. I kept experimenting with more stuff, it resulted to the current Black Kewpie. I just enjoyed creating these Dolls.
Q: What kind of people would you like to wear TONO products?
I think the TONO products are good for people who enjoy good times and has a happy heart.
Q: You have offered some clothing to Japanese celebrities such as Nakashima Mika, Matsumoto Jun and SuG. What is your next goal?
I want to make new accessories and clothing that cannot be found anywhere.
Q: Any messages for your international fans?
I think Japan has the widest variety of culture in the world and TONO is also a part of this culture. I appreciate all those who have enjoyed the items.
