Hayasaka is a designer working on various arts like graphic design and package. He has won the Thirteenth International Illustration Competition multiple times. I was fortunate enough to catch up with Nobuya and talked about his latest creations, Woonya.
Tell Us More About You and Your Works
Besides being a designer, I have been creating woonya cats to express my own creativity freely. Being a designer, we work hard every day so I needed some extension on how I can let my creativity flow freely.
When Did You Start Working on Woonya
As a designer, I always hold a pen to make my designs. Every day, I make ads and designs for different clients so you could just imagine the amount of stress I am in. I wanted to do my own thing. To create something out from pure and raw talent and not be influenced by any external element. From there I have started created woonya or felted wool cats.
What is the Inspiration Behind your Work?
I want to give the sense of a casual warm feeling. I want to capture simple life in the warmest way possible. I have no particular inspiration, I think everything I encounter, see and feel I add in my artworks. My artworks are a reflection of myself and my creativity.
Any Future Plans?
Creating Woonya Cats takes a lot of time and effort. Manufacturing might take a little more time but the wait is worth it. I want to make these adorable cats as long as I can.
Thank you Hayasaka for that wonderful interview. To see more of Hayasaka’s felt cats, you can see them here.
